Here is what happened this week for DAGA and our Democratic Attorneys General:

2019 CAMPAIGN UPDATE

• “SHERO OF THE WEEK”: This week, BlackHer announced that Mississippi AG candidate Jennifer Riley Collins was their “Shero of the Week.” BlackHer journalist Jocelyn Harmon wrote a Q&A-style profile on Riley Collins. • ENDORSEMENT ALERT – VOTEVETS: This week, VoteVets announced their endorsement of Mississippi AG candidate Jennifer Riley Collins. “Jennifer has a strong spirit of serving others, whether it is serving our nation in uniform, and defending our freedoms, or serving as a lawyer fighting against poverty and for criminal justice reform, the right to vote, and juvenile justice,” said VoteVets Veteran Outreach Coordinator Rick Hegdahl. “That spirit of service is something the people of Mississippi should expect from all their elected officials, but definitely from their Attorney General.  We’re proud to endorse her.” Read the full endorsement here!

ROSENBLUM FOR RE-ELECTION!!
This week, DAGA Co-Chair Oregon AG Ellen Rosenblum filed for re-election. “There is, no doubt, a lot more that we must take on at this critical time,” AG Rosenblum highlighted as part of her announcement. “Every day we take up the fight on multiple fronts:  consumer protection, child support and advocacy, supporting survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, hate crimes and elder abuse; environmental protection; student debt; women’s reproductive freedoms; immigrant rights—and the list goes on. I promise, if re-elected, to continue to provide the gold standard of legal service to state government and to look out for and take a legal stand on behalf of those in our state who are the most vulnerable,” AG Rosenblum continued. Immediately following the news, DAGA released statements of support from DAGA Co-Chair District of Columbia AG Karl Racine and DAGA Executive Director Sean Rankin.

• “Oregonians have a real champion in Ellen Rosenblum. I am proud to be serving with her as Co-Chair of DAGA as we work together with our Democratic AG colleagues to protect the most vulnerable communities and fight back against the barrage of attacks coming out of the Trump Administration” AG Racine said.
• “Over the last three years, Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum has been a leading figure in the movement of Attorneys General to the national stage. As a co-chair of the Democratic Attorneys General Association, she has contributed to every major national action protecting the people from overreach and callousness by the Trump administration,” Rankin noted.

WORKING FOR WORKERS
Washington AG Bob Ferguson announced this week that his office has ended no-poach clauses at EIGHT additional corporate chains, bringing the total number of agreements to 75. “My legal team is relentless. We’re on our way to eliminating this practice that hurts millions of workers at corporate franchises. My office’s initiative to end no-poach practices nationwide has benefited millions of workers at nearly 140,000 locations — and we’re not slowing down,” AG Ferguson said. PROTECTING RETIREE ACCOUNTS
On Monday, eight Democratic AGs announced they were filing a federal lawsuit challenging the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) “Regulation Best Interest” rule for failing to meet basic investor protections laid out in the 2010 Dodd-Frank Act. “With this rule, the SEC is choosing Wall Street over Main Street,” New York AG Tish James said. New York is joined by California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, New Mexico and Oregon. Read more about this effort to protect everyday consumers here!

FIGHTING FOR CLEAN WATER
In response to the Trump administration announcing they were rescinding the Clean Water Act, California AG Xavier Becerra said, “California won’t stand for this latest environmental attack by the Trump Administration, which could threaten federal protections for the majority of our waters. Our oceans, lakes, and rivers are all connected – when pollution impacts one source, it impacts them all and affects our communities.” Read the full statement here!
