WOMEN SUPPORTING WOMEN

DAGA headed to NYC this week for a reception for the 1881 Initiative, our program focused on supporting and electing women to half of the seats held by Democratic AGs by 2022. Mississippi candidate, Jennifer Riley Collins, was joined by Delaware AG Kathy Jennings, Massachusetts AG Maura Healey, and New York AG Tish James!

(POD)CASTING CALL: POD SAVE NEW YORK

New York AG Tish James joined Pod Save America last week to highlight the work she, along with other Democratic AGs, is leading to hold Trump and other wrong-doers accountable as well as protect the people in her state. “Attorneys General all across this nation, but most importantly Democratic Attorneys General, have been the firmest pillar of our democracy” said AG James. T(OP-ED): A STUDENT LOAN BILL OF RIGHTS

In a joint op-ed this week in the Providence Journal, Rhode Island AG Peter Neronha joined State Treasurer Seth Magaziner to advocate for the recently introduced Student Loan Bill of Rights. The op-ed notes, “The impacts of the student loan crisis in Rhode Island are far reaching and reverberate across our state’s economy,” and that the Student Bill of Rights, “will require loan servicers to provide accurate and complete information to borrowers about the status of their loans and eligibility for loan assistance programs; equips the Consumer Protection Unit of the attorney general’s office to process student loan servicing complaints; and lets state regulators penalize servicers and seek restitution for victims.” Read the full op-ed by AG Neronha here!

ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH

During the month of May, as part of their #UpNext series, HuffPost is highlighting Asian Americans who are “on the rise in public service.” Connecticut AG William Tong spoke about “the challenges he has faced as one of the few Asian Americans in statewide elected office.” AG Tong said, “People need to see the possibilities, and see themselves in those roles.” Check out the full HuffPost profile here!

KENTUCKY DEMOCRATS GET INTO (VICTORY) FORMATION

Tuesday night was a great night to be a Democratic AG! First, current Kentucky AG Andy Beshear won the Democratic primary to become the Democratic Governor nominee. Sceond, Democratic candidate, and previous Democratic Kentucky Attorney General Greg Stumbo moved onto the general election uncontested, where he will face Senator McConnell’s hand-picked protégé, Daniel Cameron. DAGA Executive Director Sean Rankin said the following on election night, “Kentucky voters clearly know the difference that having a strong Democratic AG makes in their everyday lives. That is why Andy Beshear won the Democratic gubernatorial primary—and why we are confident Greg Stumbo is the one to continue the progress in the Kentucky Office of Attorney General.” Catch the full statement here!
