JOSEPH SIEGELMAN

CANDIDATE FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL OF ALABAMA

Intro

Joseph (“Joe”) Siegelman is a civil rights attorney and the managing partner of The Cochran Firm’s Birmingham office. While devoting much of his practice to civil rights litigation, Joe has also worked in the areas of personal injury, products liability, medical malpractice, and mass tort litigation.

People, Not Politics. That’s what Joe’s campaign is about, bringing the Office of Attorney General back to the people of Alabama. Joe’s career has been dedicated to serving individuals who need help asserting their rights and protecting themselves in today’s world. Joe will bring this same dedication and passion to the people of Alabama. He will continue his mission to fight for the working people of this state by protecting our children’s right to attend safe schools, tackling the opioid epidemic as the public health crisis that it is, advocating for criminal justice reform, and seeking environmental and economic justice.

Early Life and Education

Joe was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, where he attended LAMP High School. A summa cum laude scholarship student, Joe earned his undergraduate degree in Finance from the University of Alabama’s Honors College and Business Honors Program, while completing part of his coursework at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Joe earned his Juris Doctor—also on scholarship—from The University of Alabama School of Law. While in law school, Joe was selected for an externship during which he served as a policy intern for Congressional Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer.

Career Highlights

An active member and leader in the Alabama State Bar, Joe has worked tirelessly to achieve justice for Alabamians who have been injured or wronged.

Joe has represented victims across all of Alabama and beyond in both state and federal court. He also represented his father, former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman, through his appeals including to the U.S. Supreme Court. In his capacity as counsel for his father, Joe worked with former White House Counsel Greg Craig as well as an unprecedented bipartisan coalition of former Attorneys General across the country who supported his father’s appeals.

For his early courtroom accomplishments, The National Trial Lawyers named Joe to the Top 40 Under 40 as one of its youngest inductees.

Personal Life

Joe is the son of Lori Siegelman and former Governor Don Siegelman. Although Joe will be continuing his father’s legacy of protecting women’s rights and consumer rights as the next Attorney General of Alabama, he remains committed to forging his own political path and working every day on the current issues that matter most to Alabamians, including the opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform, human trafficking, school safety, and protecting our seniors from fraud and abuse.
