Washington, D.C.— The Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) released the following statement from Executive Director Sean Rankin congratulating Josh Kaul on winning the Wisconsin Attorney General’s seat. Kaul ousted Republican incumbent Brad Schimel to bring Democratic leadership back to the Wisconsin OAG.

“We applaud Josh Kaul and his campaign on winning the Wisconsin Attorney General race and for flipping the Wisconsin OAG blue. For a first-time candidate like Josh Kaul to unseat an incumbent with substantial name-ID advantage who is bankrolled by special interests indicates a significant change from AG races of the past. Kaul represents the Wisconsin values voters want in their leaders.  Kaul’s victory is a lesson for all AG races—when you have a good candidate who is qualified, tireless, and willing to connect with people from all corners of the state, you win.”

As part of the Democratic Attorneys General Association’s (DAGA) first-of-its-kind volunteer-to-voter education texting program, more than 1.1 million Wisconsin voters were reached this cycle to inform them about the importance of AG Elections and to answer questions about Josh Kaul’s campaign. As the only voter outreach program texting specifically on Attorney General races, DAGA’s texting program educates voters about races in key states and gives voters an opportunity to share concerns they want Attorney General candidates to address. This cycle, DAGA connected with a milestone 11 million voters including voters in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Texas, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia.

In addition to the texting efforts, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin joined DAGA in April to launch Say Bye To Backlog Brad, a microsite calling out Republican Attorney General Brad Schimel’s inability to do his job. The site highlights how Brad Schimel consistently fails to understand his role as Attorney General and constantly fails to meet the needs of the people. Furthermore, DAGA WI People’s Lawyer Project, an independent organization backed by the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA), ran television ads focused on Brad Schimel’s bad judgement and inability to keep the people of Wisconsin safe.
